Spent Saturday inking comics. Sunday I took the day off after uploading and typing up the podcast. This morning I flat-fill colored three pages and finished shading one. I started a second but didn’t finish it before my dentist appointment and errands. I’m thinking I’d like to get this batch of comics done and then another before I get back to animating.

I’ve got a number of animation projects lined up to keep me busy. I’m eager to get to it after finishing that animation challenge entry but want to build my comic buffer up more before I dive in.

Got up this morning at 5 and worked in the studio for a few hours. I finished inks on one page and redrew the pencils on another. Inked about half of it though I want to rework one busy panel. I’m not used to drawing such a reference-heavy comic. If I draw something I want people to recognize I try to recreate the style. That gets confusing when you’re illustrating something that’s been redesigned a bunch.

I started feeling tired so I plopped down for a nap that ended up lasting 6 hours. I wasn’t expecting to sleep that much but I’d rather do it when I can afford to as opposed to being on deadline. Then I had dinner and ran errands with mom. I’m going to see how much of those pages I can finish tomorrow and maybe Sunday since I’d like to start another batch of something soon.

Got up at 5 promptly this morning. Worked in the studio until about noon. Inked a page and tightened the pencils on another. After that my hand started to cramp so I took a break. My dad invited me to tag along while he set up trail cams. Then mom had a doctor’s appointment so I hung out at Barnes & Noble until we went for dinner.

It was a simple day but I got work done. I enjoyed the work I was doing, I’m looking forward to finishing it, and I’m excited about my next batch of projects. I’d call that a good day.

Slept in today. Took dad out to lunch and visited my cousin. I decided after I finished that animation yesterday that I was going to take a day off. I’ve been working on that one project for awhile and it’s important to give myself time to not have to be doing anything. Tomorrow I’ll dive back into drawing comics and add to my buffer.

Today I finished up my entry for the Animation Challenge.

All in all I’m happy with it. I just wish I’d been working as hard every day as the last two. There are some frills I thought about adding and of course every animation can use more inbetweens but there’s plenty going on in this two seconds already.

I’ll be editing together a WIP vid of all the variations and maybe record some commentary later. Right now I’m thrilled it’s complete, submitted, and looks half decent.

I spent the weekend and this morning working on that animation. I’ll probably add some inbetweens tomorrow before I color and shade/add effects but the primary animation’s done.

Tomorrow I’m going to see how much I can squeeze in. I have a few little touches I’d like to add and hopefully they won’t take long to implement.

Spent the morning and evening today doing line work on that animation.

I haven’t colored in the reaper yet to make it easier to inbetween him later. I need to add some breakdowns so his movement isn’t so jerky. I Also need to go over him with some thicker line weights as this pass was mostly to figure out the scratchy look. His left hand and scythe are keyed on different layers since I was copy/pasting them in the rough. I’ll use a cutter matte to make it look like the blade’s slicing into the ground when I animate the hole. Not sure if I’ll do light beams, smoke, or like grabby hands coming out of it yet. Right now I’m just trying to solidify what’s there already. Once that’s all inked and working I’ll add little things here and there.

Spent some time last night and today working out the sliders on the homepage. The theme I use comes with a slide system built in but it’s the kind you have to change out manually. With this setup it should pull the most recent posts from specific categories. I also think I figured out how to make the newsletter signup page the first slide, but don’t quote me on that.

Spent the morning retiming that animation, making stuff happen sooner and adding more motion right before the end.

I started inking and coloring elements this afternoon and evening. I’m planning to animate the doors swinging open a bit, maybe add some papers swaying, but for now I want to solidify what’s there. There’s always more drawings and elements to add but I like where this is going so far.

I slept in a bit today because I stayed up too late last night. I spent the afternoon and evening retooling some of the site – fixing my project list link on the homepage and the playlist shortcodes on the Live page. I added some pages to navigate videos so now there are dedicated pages to Crafting Mines, NoRights Plays… (with archives for both Rogue Legacy and Don’t Starve as those are the only ones that have gone up so far) as well as misc WIP videos I’ve done.

I still need to update the projects on my list. I also need to work out an automated slider solution. I want something that will pull recent posts. I’d also like to figure out a more automated workflow for making posts but one thing at a time.
