MIITOMO, NINTENDO’S FIRST MOBILE APP, IS GONNA MAKE BANK

‘Lego Batman Movie’ teaser trailer takes us inside the brick Batcave

Moving onto the main topic, Ben shares the article Watch Animated Short ‘The OceanMaker’, Learn How a Tropical Retreat Made This Film. Lucas Martell took the crew of the film to a Caribbean island for six weeks to work on the short. They even produced a YouTube behind the scenes series chronicling the experience.

This leads to a series of questions. Is an animation retreat a good way to network, learn new skills, and relax or can it be a good production environment? There are plenty of artist retreats and getaways out there, but how would one work for animation? World Animation Retreat is a weekend. Would it make more sense to run such an event as a nonprofit?

Finally, everybody hunkers down to play some King of the Hill trivia. Who will emerge victorious this week? Tune in to find out!

Following that, Ben tells us how Manga Studio is consolidating to just Clip Studio Paint. Version 1.5.4 includes new animation features. Considering Celsys is also responsible for RETAS, something of a standard in anime, this is a pretty big deal. And Clip Studio Paint is currently on sale as of this recording! $20 for Pro and $87 for EX. (For animation Pro supports up to 24 frames while EX handles more.) Full disclosure: We are advertising affiliates for Smith Micro, however that’s not why we’re highlighting this sale. Clip Studio Paint is an extremely affordable alternative to Photoshop and other programs, now with animation capabilities, and the full version is reduced from it’s usual $209.99 price.
